Kin Ryu 2K Challenge Team
On
Sunday, Kin Ryu Judo Club enjoyed great success when six of its junior
members fought at the Southern Area Orange Belt
and
Under
Open
held at
K2.
This was always going to be a tough event, as the competition is open
to any junior judo player (orange belt and below) in the country; but
on the
day, all fighters were ready for their contests.
David O’ Doherty, Anna O’ Doherty and Cieran Schrembri all fought well
and were unlucky not to win medals. All three came up against older,
more experienced
players and can be proud of their performances.
Zoe Killick and Erin Kenward both demonstrated real determination and
both had a great day, losing only one contest each to take a silver
medal in their
groups. Lucy Marriott completed the day by winning all of her contests
to take a well-deserved gold medal - despite having to fight players
in the
weight group above her own!
Club coaches Martin Rivers, Peter Seymour, Matthew Kilpatrick and Lisa
Harrison also attended the event, refereeing and coaching.
All competitors should be congratulated on their performances well done
to all!
As well competing the juniors have
been hard at work in the club recently hosting a club visit from Keisen
Judo Club,
East Grinstead.
There was an
excellent turn out from both clubs, with over 40 youngsters attending to
train and compete for the "2K Challenge Trophy". All entered into
the spirit of the event - with the cheering being clearly heard down the
corridors from the Marital Arts Suite at K2!
After some very close contests and excellent Judo from all fighters, Kin
Ryu won the trophy with the result being 11 wins to 10.
As well as bringing players, Keisen also brought four junior referees - all
of who should be congratulated for their efforts.
Kin Ryu are now looking forward to the return visit in six months time.
